Walter "Walt" Strasser

February 5, 1945 — January 18, 2024

WALTER "WALT" STRASSER, 78, of Holyoke, CO, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2024.

Walt was born on February 5, 1945, in Julesburg, CO, to Wilhelm and Frida Strasser, immigrants from Rohracker, Germany. Walt graduated from Julesburg High School and served in the Army National Guard.

He began his career farming south of Julesburg at a very young age. He was driving tractors for his father as soon as he could see over the steering wheel.

On November 26, 1967, Walt married the love of his life, Janet Radke. The two lived on the Strasser family farm halfway between Julesburg and Holyoke. This is where they raised their five children and opened their doors to anyone else who needed a place to go.

When Walt wasn't farming or fixing something, he spent his time creating works of art. From stained glass masterpieces to woodworking to rock gardens, he was always busy making something beautiful, most of it because he knew Janet would love it. The two immensely enjoyed taking bus tours all over North America.

Walt and Janet were blessed to spend 54 beautiful years together.

Walt was hard-working, honest, and loving. He was a man of few words, but his family never needed to hear the words "I love you." His love was in his every action. From his pride and love of the land he farmed and the family he raised, there was never a question of what his loyalty, love, or effort was for. He was a great man, and his family will miss him dearly.

Walt is preceded in death by his parents, wife Janet, sister Gertrude Reed, and grandson Justin Schaffer.

He is survived by his five children, Sheila (Glenn) Schaffer of Chehalis, WA; LaVonne (Terry) Andersen of Holyoke, CO; Brian (Lisha) Strasser of Omaha, NE; Denise (Anthony) Strasser of Meridian, ID; and Scott (Toni) Strasser of Julesburg, CO; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
