Richard Dennis Connerley, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on July 25, 2026.
Born on April 24, 1942, in the small town of Ovid, Colorado, Richard was the cherished son of Mike and Edna (Nagel) Connerley.
Richard served honorably as a Navy medic attached to a Marine unit from 1960 to 1964. It was in the service that he met Ray, Dawn's brother, who introduced them. Their love story began with a wedding on January 20, 1967, in Logan, Utah. Together they built a life rich in love and adventure, raising four beautiful daughters-Kaylyn (Eric) South, Krystal (Brett) Gilbert, Kara Connerley, and Rebecca (Spencer) Barlow-across Utah, Idaho, and Canada.
In 1969, Richard graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor's degree in education, setting the stage for a fulfilling career as a band and music teacher at the junior high and high school levels. His passion for music inspired countless students, and his love for teaching was evident in every lesson. Richard's entrepreneurial spirit led him to open a water park in Idaho and a food manufacturing plant in Canada, ventures that reflected his creativity and drive.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Richard found great joy in his faith and community. He made a lifetime commitment to studying and sharing the gospel. He shared many of his talents with others, including singing and playing his favorite guitar. His family history work was a testament to his devotion to connecting past and present, and his knack for telling a good joke was a source of joy for all who knew him. Richard's greatest gift was his ability to help others everywhere he went.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Elaine (Connerley) Rudel, and his devoted wife Dawn (Albretsen) Connerley, with whom he shared 40 joyful years of marriage.
He is survived by his daughters, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
We will carry forward his memory and the many lessons he imparted. His daughters would like to thank the many families and friends in Ovid and the surrounding area who loved and cared for him this past year.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations or support to local school music programs, honoring Richard's generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
There are no local services planned. Services will take place in Utah.
Prairie Hills Funeral Home of Julesburg is assisting the Connerley family.
