PHYLLIS KEMPER, 97, longtime Julesburg resident, passed away May 16, 2023 at the Sedgwick County Nursing Home.
Phyllis was born July 5, 1925 to Nicholas and Emma (Schultz) Tranel. She graduated from Big Springs, NE High School. On September 13, 1943 Phyllis married Orville Kemper of Julesburg. To this union there were four children. Judy, Kerry, Kimberlee, and Kristee.
After Orville returned from serving in the Navy, they resided on a farm southeast of Julesburg. In 1962 they moved to Julesburg and owned the OK Liquor Store. Phyllis worked out of her home as a seamstress, worked in the liquor store and in her later years, she spent her days babysitting.
Some of Phyllis's enjoyments in life were music, dancing the polka, fashion, shoes, riding her bike, and never went without her earrings. The family will always remember her rum and chocolate pies at family gatherings. She was also a devoted fan of the Broncos Football Team.
Survivors include her children Judy (Doug) Whitten of Lakewood, CO, Kerry Kemper of Denver, CO, and Kristee (Brad) Christopher of Aurora, CO. She leaves behind eight grandchildren, Andy Kemper, Alison Armstrong, Ian Kemper, Heather Dirschl, Bryce and Morgan Munson, Dane Mollendor and 13 great-grandchildren, along with many other relatives and friends.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband; brother, LaVern Tranel; sister-in-law, Doris Tranel; daughter, Kimberlee Munson; and grandson, Tanner Mollendor.
Memorials may be made in loving memory of Phyllis to the Sedgwick County Nursing Home, 901 Cedar Street, Julesburg, CO 80737.
A graveside service will be held on June 3, 2023, 11:00 am at the Hillside Cemetery, Julesburg, CO. A luncheon will follow at the D&J Café in Julesburg.
Prairie Hills Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
