Opal Reck

Opal Elaine Reck, 96, of Julesburg, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Devonshire Estates in Sterling, Colorado.

Opal was born November 21, 1929, on a farm north of Selden, Kansas, to George and Alice (Fries) Imhof. At an early age, the family moved to a farm between Hoxie and Tasco, Kansas. She graduated from the eighth grade at Tasco Grade School and attended high school in Seldon & Levant, Kansas, and Lone Star School in Colorado, before graduating from high school in Colby, Kansas, in 1947.

Following graduation, she moved to Fort Lupton, Colorado, where she worked as a secretary at Kuner Empson Co. during canning season. Opal met the love of her life at the Homestead Grange dance in 1949. On January 13, 1952, Opal and Fred Reck were married at Highland Methodist Church in Denver, Colorado. Fred was involved in the family farm near Wiggins, and Opal worked at the REA in Fort Morgan.

In November 1967, the couple moved to Julesburg, where Fred was manager at Wycon Chemical. In 1988, Fred and Opal started their own business serving area farmers with silage conditioner and fertilizer. Opal and Fred were honored as Grand Marshals at the Sedgwick County Fair in 2002.

Opal took great pride in her flower garden and yard and was actively involved with the county fair. She was a member of the Methodist Church, where she served on the board for many years and was honored as A Quiet Disciple in 2019. She was also a longtime member of Eastern Star, serving in many positions over the years. In 2019, Opal moved to assisted living in Julesburg.

Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, in 2018; her parents; her mother and father-in-law; and her brothers, Robert, Ralph, Leslie, Richard, Glen, and Clifford, and their spouses. Opal leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the Julesburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Aaron McClellan officiating. Inurnment will be in the Hoyt Cemetery southwest of Wiggins, Colorado.
