Margaret Krems

February 8, 1923 — July 3, 2022

MARGARET KREMS, 99, of Big Springs, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the Sedgwick County Nursing Home in Julesburg.

Margaret was born February 8, 1923, north of Venango, to Henry and Emma (Miller) Steinke. She attended country school in Perkins County.

On May 3, 1943, Margaret married Melvin Krems at St. Louis, MO, while he was serving in the Army. Melvin's service would separate the two for a time and eventually relocated them to El Paso, TX, until after Melvin's discharge.

The couple ultimately settled on the family homestead 14 miles north of Big Springs, where they farmed and raised their family. Their union would be blessed with four children, Robert, Jolene, Carol, and Rodney. Melvin passed away on November 26, 1985, and a couple of years later, Margaret moved into Big Springs. She had recently made her home at the Sedgwick County Nursing Home.

Margaret enjoyed embroidery and sewing. She loved to bake and cook. She made amazing pies and never had the need for recipes.

She was devoted to her faith and was a longtime member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Big Springs.

Margaret was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was the epitome of strength and kindness. She now joins her beloved husband in Heaven, in addition to her son, Rodney, two brothers, and two sisters.

She leaves behind an incredible legacy of family, including her children, Bob (Beth) Krems of Grant, NE, Carol (Jim) King of Loveland, CO, and Jolene Krems of Big Springs, NE; grandchildren, Pennie, Michelle, Steven, Melissa, Kimberly, David, and Michael; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, and four sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Big Springs Volunteer Fire Department in Margaret's memory. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsjulesburg.com, where the service will be streamed live.
