Marc Fredrick O’Connor

Jan 16, 1951 — Oct 11, 2026

Marc O’Connor was a wild mountain man through and through, a passionate outdoorsman, a master gardener, a devoted dog trainer, and, by his own description, a “Chatty Kathy.” He loved the mountains, the open country, good dogs, good friends, and a good conversation. He had a way of making friends wherever he went, and he lived life in a way that was unmistakably his own.

Marc passed away on October 11, 2026, near Julesburg, Colorado, at the age of 75.

Born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, on January 16, 1951, Marc grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. His love of the outdoors began early. He played the tuba, became an Eagle Scout, and developed an appreciation for nature that would remain with him throughout his life.

Marc married his high school sweetheart, and together they raised two children in Evergreen, Colorado. The mountains became home, offering the landscape and lifestyle that suited him so well. An avid hunter and gun enthusiast, Marc spent countless hours in the mountains and in the wide-open country of eastern Colorado and western Nebraska. Marc was happiest outdoors, among people who appreciated the land and the life it offered.

His love of nature also found expression in his work. As a master gardener and landscaper, Marc took enormous pride in creating beautiful outdoor spaces. Whether transforming the grounds of a large ranch, working alongside a mason to build beautiful walkways and patios, or carefully selecting the grasses, shrubs, flowers, and boulders that would bring a landscape together, he approached every project with an eye for detail. He understood how to work with the natural landscape and took satisfaction in seeing his vision come to life.

Dogs were another great passion. Marc devoted years to learning how to train hunting dogs, developing his skills through experience, patience, and a deep love of the animals. Over time, he began training other people's dogs, always eager to share his knowledge. His connection with dogs was a natural extension of his love for the outdoors and the hunting life he cherished.

But for all his interests and accomplishments, Marc's personality may be what people remember most. He called himself “Chatty Kathy,” and the title fit. He loved to talk, tell stories, and connect with people. Whether he was in the mountains, visiting a farm in the plains, working on a landscaping project, or simply going about his day, Marc had a knack for turning an encounter into a conversation.

He leaves behind countless memories woven into the mountains he loved, the landscapes he created, and the many conversations that began with a simple hello.

Marc is survived by his daughter, Kelly O’Connor; his son, Tucker O’Connor, and daughter-in-law, Courtney O’Connor; his granddaughter, Teagan; and his brothers, Brad O’Connor and Kurt O’Connor.
