With profound sadness, but also deep gratitude for a well-lived life, we announce the passing of Linda C. Hartwell. Linda, age 84, passed away peacefully at the Sedgwick County Hospital on November 22, 2025.
Linda was born in a local residential hospital known as Allen Home on September 30, 1941. Her parents were Olive and Don Clark, and she was welcomed home by her parents and older sister, Nancy. Her family soon welcomed home younger sister, Susan. As her family grew, she welcomed her brother, Ed, and sister, Anna.
Linda attended and graduated from Julesburg High School in 1959. Following graduation from high school, Linda moved to Denver to attend Colorado Business College. After college, she returned to Julesburg to work in one of the attorney offices.
On November 27, 1960, she married Vaughn Ormel Hartwell. To this union were born four children - son Dirk and daughters Janelle, Carrie, and Ronda. In 2010, Linda and Vaughn celebrated their 50th anniversary with a large family gathering at the Hartwell farm south of Julesburg.
Linda has eight grandchildren - Sean and Cody Hartwell, Chris and Jeff Boden, Margaret, Alex, Nicholas, and Peter Bauchat. She has two great-grandchildren, Harrison and Elliot Hartwell with younger sibling Baby Girl Hartwell soon to arrive in early 2026.
Vaughn and Linda enjoyed many activities together, and as a family, such as drag racing, snowmobiling, ice skating, and sporting events to watch their children participate. They never missed an event their children were in and would often drive the Suburban filled with fellow band members, athletes, and equipment of all sorts. Linda was active in Tri-n-Do Club, 4-H Club, Garden Club, and as the Girl Scout Leader for decades, in which she did more than her share of camping in tents, nature hikes, canoeing, and building campfires.
Linda was a self-taught and self-motivated artisan and excelled in quilling and quilting. She sold her handmade wares as a vendor locally, in Sidney, Nebraska, and in Fort Collins, Colorado, for many years.
Linda is survived by son Dirk Hartwell, daughters Janelle Boden, Carrie Hartwell, and Ronda (Michael) Bauchat, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sisters Nancy Smith, Susan (Rich) Carlson, Anna (Randy) Scott, brother Ed (Donna) Rober, and sister-in-law Edna May Geib.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vaughn, parents Olive and Jerome "Bud" Rober, Don Clark, and nephew Jonathan Rober. Linda will be missed by numerous family members, friends, and neighbors.
A memorial has been established in Linda's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsjulesburg.com, where the services will be streamed live.
