LEWAYNE BOGENHAGEN, 90, of Omaha, NE, passed away Friday, February 10, 2023, in Bellevue, NE.
He was born in Wallace, Kansas October 19, 1932, to August and Stella (Docken) Bogenhagen. LeWayne was the youngest of five brothers. When he was still young, his family moved to Big Springs, NE, where he walked to the old District 28 country school south of town during his elementary school days. Later he dropped out of school to help his mother on the farm. He always enjoyed reading, so he never stopped learning.
LeWayne left the farm briefly to enlist and drive truck in the Korean war. After serving his country in the US Army, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Ann Hicks on February 16, 1955. They made a life together, raising four children on the same farm he was raised on. LeWayne began a new career in heavy construction. Once the children were grown, Marilyn was able to join him.
They traveled together throughout Wyoming and Nebraska, including helping with the I-80 project. When it was time to retire, they found themselves in the Omaha area, where they decided to settle in and begin a new career in real estate.
He was a hard worker and a good provider and cared deeply for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marilyn, and his son Michael L. Bogenhagen.
He is survived by his children, Colleen (Lou) Pena, Mark Bogenhagen, and Shawn Bogenhagen, as well as eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Big Springs Assembly of God. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church. Interment will follow at the Big Springs Cemetery.
