JANICE L. DAWSON, 82, of Julesburg, CO, passed away Friday, July 14, 2023, at the Medical Center of The Rockies in Loveland, CO.
Jan was born on January 21, 1941, to Ernst and Pauline (Stamp) Behrmann in Los Angeles, California. Jan was subsequently raised by her paternal grandparents, August and Anna Behrmann, and her uncle, Richard. Jan graduated from Longmont High School and attended UNC at Fort Collins.
On November 22, 1959, Jan married Richard Loren Dawson, Jr. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Longmont, and their union was blessed with three children, Rhonda, Tamara, and Richard "Ricky" III.
Jan's vocation in life was as a mother, but she also worked as a manufacturing scheduler for many years at Teledyne in Fort Collins.
Jan was a joyful and easygoing person. She relished time spent in the outdoors, especially when she was fishing, backpacking, or camping. Perhaps her favorite hobby was birdwatching, and she was reliably filled with great excitement every time she spotted a rare bird. Jan and Dick's mutual passion for fishing and the outdoors led them to Jumbo Reservoir, where their growing fondness for the area eventually prompted them to make Julesburg their permanent home.
Jan was a longtime member of the Lutheran Church and a longtime volunteer for the Orphan Grain Train.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Loren Dawson Jr., of Julesburg; daughters, Tammy Dawson of Julesburg and Rhonda (Bill) Ward of Aurora; four grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Arlyn Behrmann-Dirkes of Longmont; sister-in-law, Marlo (Robert) Bryan of Berthoud, CO; along with many other relatives and friends.
Preceded by her son, Richard "Ricky Loren Dawson III; her parents, Ernst and Pauline Behrmann; a sister, Marcene Cropp; uncle, Richard Behrmann; and grandparents, August and Anna Behrmann.
