Bradley Leroy Matoush

BRADLEY LeRoy MATOUSH, 72, of Lodgepole, passed away October 14, 2025.

Brad was born July 23, 1953, in Denver, Colorado, to LeRoy Matoush and Mildred (Barnica) Griffin. Brad grew up in the Denver area, attending both Lincoln High School and Bear Creek High School before moving to Julesburg his senior year and graduating with the class of 1971.

Following high school Brad enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on active duty for three years. Brad then joined the U.S. Army and became a member of the elite Special Forces Green Berets serving a total of eleven years before his honorable discharge in February of 1990.

Brad married Peggy Miller in 1973 and together made their home in Sedgwick, CO. He was blessed with two sons, Cris and Travis. Brad later moved to Chappell in 2010.

For much of his career, Brad owned and operated a business specializing in commercial diving, underwater recovery/maintenance and lake management-performing chemical treatments and maintenance in bodies of water across Colorado, Nebraska, Wyoming and South Dakota. His work reflected his love of the outdoors and taste for adventure.

On July 5, 2024, Brad married Joan, and the couple made their home in Lodgepole.

Brad will be remembered for his sense of humor, ability to tell a great story, passion for firearms and outdoor recreation and the love he shared for those around him. Brad was the kind of man who made everyone feel welcome, he never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his father, LeRoy Matoush; a brother, Wade Matoush; cousin, Lavern Barnica; stepfather, Alvin Griffin, previous wife, Peggy Raymond; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Matoush of Lodgepole; sons, Cris Matoush of Chappell and Travis (Nevada) Matoush of Parker, CO; grandchildren, Madison, Logan, Rhya, McKinley, and Leyton Matoush; mother, Mildred Griffin of Chappell; sister, Lynette Matoush of Maine; niece, Annie Helgerg of Fort Collins; nephew, Taylor Williams of Maine; sister-in-law, Karen Matoush of Parker; nephew, Tyler Matoush of Parker; brother-in-law, Dennis (Rhonda) Miller of Chappell; stepdaughter, Jennifer (Willie) Evans of Julesburg and their many children and grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Brad will be held Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sedgwick Community Center.

Military honors will include the presentation of a folded flag.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Turning Point USA or the NRA in memory of Brad.
