Betty Walter of Sedwick, Colorado, passed away on March 12, 2026 at Julesburg, Colorado.
Honoring her request, a private family funeral service was held at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home of Julesburg, Colorado, with Pastor Larry Nail officiating. Burial followed in the Ovid Cemetery, Ovid, Colorado.
Betty was born February 6, 1935, and was the oldest of six children to parents, Walter Carl and Rebecca Jane Lueth. As a young girl, Betty was baptized and confirmed into the Methodist faith. She graduated from Sedgwick High School as class Valedictorian in 1953. In 1957, Betty received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business with a major in Medical Record Administration from the University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado. That same year, she successfully passed the National Board examination of the American Medical Record Association, becoming a Registered Record Administrator. She was a member of the American Medical Record Association.
Following graduation from the University of Colorado, Betty was employed as Director of the Medical Record Departments at Weld County Hospital in Greeley and Craig Rehabilitation Center in Denver. Prior to her marriage, she was employed at Hamilton Funds Corporation in Denver, Colorado.
On February 14, 1960, Betty and Adam John Walter were united in Holy Matrimony at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Julesburg, Colorado. Following her return to Sedgwick County, Betty was employed as a Medical Record Consultant to various health and hospital facilities in northeastern Colorado and as the Medical Record Director at Sedgwick County Hospital. She established medical record departments in those health care facilities that had no formal departments and trained personnel within those departments.
In 1978, Betty devoted her time to her husband and their farm and ranch business. She, however, maintained her professional registration status by attending varied and numerous continuing education seminars. Betty was a long-time member of the Sedgwick Community Presbyterian Church. She served her church as Deaconess and was honored to serve as an Elder.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Adam John Walter; adoptive parents, Walter Carl and Rebecca Jane Lueth; infant brother Billy Joe; sister Burness Joyce at age 12; brother Robert (Bobby) Leon Lueth; brother John Nolan Lueth; niece, Jennifer Sue Lueth at age 19, and Brother-in-law, Donald Weinsheim.
Betty is survived by sister, Beverly Jane Weinsheim; sisters-in-law, Deborah Lueth and Theresa (Lueth), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Prairie Hills Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
