Barbara Austin

Barbara E. Austin, 85, of Westminster, CO (formerly of Julesburg), passed away in Westminster on June 3, 2024.

Barbara Eleanor Austin was born in San Francisco on October 19, 1938. She met her husband Richard, who was attending Mortuary Science school in San Francisco, on a blind date, and they were married six months later. Barbara adjusted to small-town life pretty easily when she moved to Julesburg after the wedding, although she loved her visits back to San Francisco over the years. Barbara and Richard had three children: Debra, Tracie, and Edward.

Barbara led an active life! She worked as an insurance agent for several years, was involved in PEO, sang in the Methodist church choir, and sang and played guitar in the group Generation Gap with three dear friends. Barbara baked many wedding and special event cakes, and she started the local Girl Scout chapter, which touched the lives of many girls in Julesburg. Most importantly, Barbara cherished her friendships with so many people from town.

In 2000, Barbara and Richard moved to Westminster, CO, to be close to their grandchildren. She loved her annual summer vacations at Grand Lake, planning meals for friends and family, and spending time on her computer keeping in touch with the many people in her life.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Debra (Dale), Tracie (Bob), and Edward (Chris); grandchildren, Richard and Philip Martin; Drew, Dale, and Dana Mathisen; Rob, Will, Ian, and Ella Austin; and great-grandsons, Liam Austin and Linden and Nelson Goodwin.

Graveside services will be on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Hillside Cemetery in Julesburg, CO.
