Mildred "Millie" Wegman
November 9, 1925 — April 25, 2018
MILDRED "MILLIE" WEGMAN, 92 of Julesburg, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at Sedgwick County Memorial Nursing Home in Julesburg.
Millie was born November 9, 1925, on the family farm south of Julesburg, Colorado to Herman and Josie Thode. She graduated from Julesburg High School in 1943.
In 1945, Millie married Lester Wegman and the couple first made their home in Sedgwick, before eventually moving to Ovid. In the mid to late 1960s, the couple moved to Julesburg, where they lived the rest of their married lives.
Millie was an excellent seamstress and loved to quilt. Her quilting was always done by hand, and she became well known for the quality of her work. Part of her enjoyment of quilting was the social aspect; Millie often quilted with a group of ladies, which was something that she came to enjoy. Millie also took a liking to ceramics and crocheting. She and Lester were blessed to take many trips together, which was something that she always looked back on with fondness.
In a sense, Millie always seemed to model the ideal as a wife and homemaker. She was meticulous in most everything she did, from keeping the house, cooking, and maintaining the yard, right down to her appearance. She was a true lady, a sort of archetype of an era that was characterized by lofty ideals.
Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; son, Leonard "Lenny;" as well as siblings, Melvin, Annabele, Bill, and Neva.
Survivors include one sister, Mary Lou of Arizona; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A memorial has been established in her memory through the Endowment Fund at Julesburg United Methodist Church. Condolences can be shared online at prairiehillsjulesburg.com.
Services will be Monday, April 30, 2018, at 10:00 am at the Julesburg United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Ovid Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 29th from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Julesburg.
