Julia Loos

JULIA M. LOOS, 83, of Ovid, passed away February 9, 2022, at the Sedgwick County Hospital in Julesburg. Julia was born May 22, 1938, at Iliff, CO, to Joseph and Mary Gertner. She attended school at Iliff. On November 5, 1955, Julia married Edward "Ed" P. Loos at Sterling, CO. The couple was blessed with five children, Shirley, Rich, Allen, Paula, and Charlene. The family made their home at Sedgwick, where they farmed. Julia had worked at the Platte Valley School District as the head cook for 32 years. Julia loved to bake and cook. Her Christmas goodies were especially memorable. She also enjoyed spending time in her garden and having lunch with her lady friends when she got the chance. Julia absolutely treasured the time she spent with family, especially when it involved snuggling her grand and great-grandbabies. Julia was a faithful member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and was also active in the Altar & Rosary Society. Julia was a woman of deep faith, which carried her through the good times and the hard times of life. Julia was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Loos; her parents, Joseph and Mary Gertner; siblings, Mary Blaufuss, Catherine Gertner, Annie Loos, Joe Gertner, Maggie Degenhart, Genevieve Kohlman, and Theresa Gardner. Survivors include her children, Shirley (Les) Stutzman of Ovid, Rich (Connie) Loos of Julesburg, Allen (Leslie) Loos of Cheyenne, WY, Paula (Kenny) Deterding of Pond Creek, OK, Charlene Loos of Aurora; siblings, Veronica Staab of NE, brother, Ray (Mary) Gertner of SC, brothers-in-law, Dick Kohlman of AZ, Melvin Gardner of CO, and John Pete (Judy) Loos of CO. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren include: Jeff (Spring) Stutzman with Addyson and Emily, Jennifer (Doug) Schneider with Trenton and Macey, Kristin (Andrew) Narjes with Owen, Kari (Tim) Narjes with Alexander, Nathan, and Zac, Kandie (Ryan) Landers, Troy (Emily) Loos with Eliana, Shalley (Brian) Aragon with Tayvin and Chase, Brad (Jaci) Deterding with Kinley, Cale and Landry, Kevin (Keisha) Deterding with Keira, Kade, and Kolten, Melissa (Casey) LaBrue with Quinn, Jagger, and Jett, Kourtney Deterding, and Chad Emery with Fiance' Melissa. Memorials are suggested to St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Julesburg in Julia's memory. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsjulesburg.com. Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at 10:30 am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Julesburg, with Fr. Herman Nsubuga as Celebrant. Interment will be in the Ovid Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, February 14, 2022, from 3 pm until 5 pm at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Julesburg. The Rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm on Monday at the Catholic Church. Prairie Hills Funeral Home of Julesburg is in charge of arrangements.
