Cynthia Hernandez-Ipsen

November 25, 1953 — February 17, 2022

Cynthia Alexandrea Hernandez-Ipsen went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 17, 2022. Cynthia was born on November 25, 1953, and lived in Colorado her whole life.

Cynthia attended Revere High School "Class of 1973" and was a devoted Christian, mother, wife, sister, and daughter, as well as a friend to many that will deeply miss her.

Cynthia worked in social work her entire life. In 1978, she achieved a certification in social work and worked as an administrative assistant. She continued to study in this field and obtain her Master of Social Work. Cynthia worked as a Social Worker at the Centennial Mental Health Center in Sterling, Colorado until she moved to Denver and worked at Aurora Mental Health Center.

Cynthia took time away to care for her husband's failing health until his death in 2016. During Cynthia's time as a social worker, she battled and won cancer three times, including the most recent bout that she won as well. The aggressive treatment in this last round of cancer finally took its toll on her internal system and she was too tired to fight any longer and called upon our Lord to take her hand to give her comfort and freedom.

Cynthia was such a loving, caring, and a compassionate person. She would always step up when it came to loving and helping others. Cynthia also carried this love, care, and compassion to every animal she would see. She had three cats that she loved deeply and requested that their ashes be buried with her. She also had multiple feral cats that she fed and cared for in Denver and continued to do this even when she moved back to Ovid.

Cynthia was the oldest and helped our parents raise each one of us. Cynthia and her siblings were close and had nicknames for everyone. Cynthia's nickname was "Blue Ribbon" because we would tease her and tell her she was the favorite and could do no wrong. We are going to miss our sister so much; our love for her will live through our memories of sharing and laughter.

Cynthia is survived by her son, Joshua Adam Hernandez; mother, Sara Hernandez; siblings, Johnny Hernandez Jr., Patricia (Tim) Case, James (Brenda) Hernandez, Frankie Hernandez, and Diane (Majid) Ashouri; along with many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Brian Andrew Ipsen; father, Johnny G Hernandez Sr.; grandparents, Ignacio and Maria Hernandez, Alfonso and Mercedes Garcia, and many other beloved family members.
