Bonnie Dixon

Bonnie Bell Maxine Dixon, 93, of Julesburg, Colorado, passed away June 1, 2022, at the Sedgwick County Nursing Home in Julesburg.

Bonnie was born February 4, 1929, at the family home in Keith County to Wilhelm and Johanna (Heinemann) Brockmoller. She attended rural school at district number 57 through the eighth grade and was a graduate of Big Springs high school with the class of 1946. After graduation, Bonnie worked at the doctor's office in Big Springs until she married Wendell J. Dixon on February 16, 1947, at Chappell, Nebraska. They were married 56 years until Wendell's death on April 18, 2003.

Bonnie kept busy as a housewife and mother to five sons. She started her career with the Postal Service at the Big Springs Post Office on July 31, 1965, as substitute distributing service and window clerk. On July 17, 1971, she became postmaster and Retired on August 1, 1989.

In her retirement years, she was a member of the board of trustees of the Phelps Hotel Historical Preservation Association, a member of NAPUS (Retired National Association of Postmasters of the U.S.), and active in the upkeep of the Depot Museum and serving in the Methodist Church. She also enjoyed working in her yard and going for walks.

She became a resident of the Jacob J. and Anne B. Walter Memorial Living Center in Julesburg in September 2006 and moved to the Nursing Home in June of 2015.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Jay D. Dixon; daughter-in-law, Sherrie Dixon; siblings, Merna (Clyde) Markussen, Rachel (Clifford) Markusson, Melpha (Kenneth) Barnica, Donald (Phyllis) Brockmoller, Kermit (Marjorie) Brockmoller; brothers-in-law, Amzie Blake, Thomas (June) Dixon, Don Dixon, Bill Dixon, Herb (Mary) Dixon, and Lloyd Peterson.

She is survived by one sister, Wilma Blake of Julesburg; sisters-in-law, Rosemarie Peterson of Chadron, NE, and Debbie Dixon of AL; sons, Jimmie of CA, Jerome (Judy) of Omaha, NE, Jerry of Dannenbrog, NE, Jack (Julie) of Longview, TX; daughter-in-law, Cindy Dixon of WA; ten grandchildren, Tony Dixon, Diane (Pat)Jones of North Platte, NE, Chad (Meredith) Dixon of Omaha, NE, Wendy (Mark) Roth of Bennington, NE, Levi (Jamie) Dixon of Fort Morgan, CO, Leigh (Justin) Mings of St. Libory, NE, Lacey (Ben) Placke of St. Libory, NE, Sicily (Micah) Wilson of WA, Tess (Andrew) Webster of WA, Brock (Amanda) Dixon Gassville, AR; several great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Plains and the Big Springs Fire Department in her memory. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsjulesburg.com.

Services will be on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at 2:30 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Julesburg, with Pastor Trenton D. Christensen officiating. Committal will be in the Big Springs Cemetery at Big Springs, NE.
